TEF Canada Preparation Program

French for Canadian Immigration

What Is the TEF Canada?

The TEF Canada is an official French language exam accepted by IRCC for Permanent Residence and Canadian citizenship. It evaluates four skills:

  • Listening (Compréhension orale)
  • Reading (Compréhension écrite)
  • Speaking (Expression orale)
  • Writing (Expression écrite)

The TEF is not a beginner exam. Success requires strong foundations in French before exam-specific preparation begins.

Our Approach: A Smarter TEF Pathway

Many centres push students straight into “TEF prep,” even when they are beginners.
At Le Petit Écolier, we take a pathway-based approach that leads to real results, not false promises.

We prepare students through two structured stages, depending on level.

Stage 1 – French Foundations for Immigration

(For beginners and false beginners)

This stage is designed for students with little or no French who plan to take the TEF in the future.

Focus

  • Grammar and sentence structure
  • Oral communication and comprehension
  • Listening skills
  • Immigration-relevant vocabulary
  • Confidence and fluency building

📌 Students move to TEF preparation only once they are linguistically ready.

Estimated Timeline

  • Complete beginners typically require 12–18 months
  • Basic learners (A1) typically require 6–12 months

Stage 2 – TEF Canada Exam Preparation

(For A2–B2 learners)

This stage is for students who already communicate in French and need targeted exam preparation.

Focus

  • TEF task formats and strategies
  • Speaking simulations and examiner-style feedback
  • Writing corrections using official TEF scoring grids
  • Listening and reading strategies
  • Time management and exam techniques

How Long Does It Take to Be Ready for the TEF?

Preparation time depends on your starting level:

  • Beginner (A0): 12–18 months
  • Basic (A1): 6–12 months
  • Intermediate (A2–B1): 3–6 months
  • Advanced (B2): 6–10 weeks

We provide realistic timelines because long-term success matters more than rushed promises.
